Don't Shy Away From a ProjectDon’t Shy Away From A Project
If you do it might disappear,
Then whatever would you do with yourself,
Year after year after year?
Don’t shy away from a project,
It’s here to make you feel warm inside,
No matter how large or complex,
From it you should not hide,
Don’t shy away from a project,
It exists to bring life to your soul,
If you have a purpose in life,
Only then can you begin to feel whole.
Don’t shy away from a project,
Even if the taste it gives you is bitter,
Life is not made up of all good things,
Sometimes there is less reward in sugar than litter.
Don’t shy away from a project,
Never answer a call with a maybe,
An orphan needs a watcher,
There is no room for “That’s not my baby!”
Don’t shy away from the project,
Let it fill your heart, your soul, your coffer,
Open your mind to its whims
There is so much it has to offer.
The VondorsSweat ran down Kahldon’s face, carving tracks through the black soot that covered every inch of his skin. He was tempted to take off his wide-brimmed, pointed hat and fan himself with it, but he didn’t dare deviate from his pattern of movement, lest he draw the attention of unwanted eyes. He lifted his scythe and swung it again, the callouses on his hands burning from the roughness of the wooden handle. The blade hacked into the black stalks, slashing through what was left of the sugarcane after the burning.
Thick syrup oozed from the severed stalks and the sickly sweet smell of sugar filled the air, mingling with the acrid stench of burnt vegetation. Kahldon kicked aside the cut stalks and moved forward another step. He pushed further into the charcoal forest, the stalks stroking his bare arms, smearing more black and sticky goo onto his skin. Flies and other insects buzzed around him, drawn to the sugar coating his body. Kahldon ignored them, swatting would do no good, th

Poetry

From the RooftopsI don’t know what you meant by “that’s not my baby”
I thought I was your baby
But you won’t scream it from the rooftops,
Only in our home
Please, my love,
Stop wearing that mask!
It’s started to melt with your skin
It doesn’t suit you,
Pretending to be accustomed to the crowd
I can barely even recognize you
Can you even recognize yourself?
If I spoke to you in our native tongue,
Like we used to do as children back then,
Would you stumble across the words to say?
Would you even remember the words to say?
I don’t know what you meant by “that’s not my baby”
I thought I was your baby
Will you ever scream it from the rooftops,
Not only in our home?
Overcast Skies and Saphire EyesThough I sometimes wonder,
why I put up with the rain.
It's possibly the same
reason one grinds sugar cane.
It's to some it's only a trifle,
at best as a simple spice.
Is the same which flavors lemonade,
desserts and *everything* nice.
So the last years haven't been easy,
and I know we would not ever be, maybe?
Be of those couples on afternoon TV
shouting on Jerry "that's not my baby!"
Light the FuelThe light was blinding,
even when I closed my eyes.
Everything pure was ending.
A lying evil was on the rise.
Fueled by our need to retaliate,
we stood, but there was no change to negotiate.
The sugars turned to spice,
and water turned to blood.
We made sure they paid the price,
drowning them out with our flood.
Generation
The final generation wins,
moments before they lose it all.
They put all the nice things
between steel plates and
smashed it together,
hoping to create a
new form of condensed
niceness, and they
compressed it to hell
and it became a diamond.
The people of the world
fought over this diamond,
before it was lost
somewhere in the past.
They took decades trying to develop
another, but all the years
of science between them
only got convoluted and
twisted until all they could
produce  was a lump of coal.
They took that lump of coal
and used it to fuel the new machine.
It grew bigger every day
and they thought it could replace
that diamond, but it was loud
and it covered everyone in soot.
The people thought if
they took all the nice things
and put them together,
perhaps they could get
another diamond,
but all they got was garbage,
stinky, rotted garbage,
because nobody realized
there was no diamond
with which to begin.

My Candy BoyHe's the one who cares for me,
Keeps chasing after me.
He's sweeter than anything,
Sweeter than sugar.
He keeps trying to become more attractive,
But he's already my hottie,
Someone who spices my life up.
He's mine,
All mine.
He's sweet,
He's attractive,
And everything nice.

I Hate SupermarketsI never liked going to the supermarket.
Too much variety. I never knew what to choose. I picked up a brightly coloured box of cereal that declared it was new.
“Spaced Out Sugar Flaky Puffs?” A weird name for a weird-looking cereal. It looked like a cross between a cornflake and a puff of rice. It also boasted a mystery free gift. Couldn’t be too fancy, but what the heck?
I bought a box.
I got back to my shoebox that had the cheek to consider itself a flat. Some people ate cereal at other times of day other than the morning, but I usually wasn’t one of them.
Usually.
This time I decided to be different.
Opening the box, I pulled out the bag to check where this free gift was supposed to be. I found that it wasn’t in the bag itself, but the bottom of the box.
It was a moon-shaped pendant, of all things. It looked metallic, but I fully expected it to be made of plastic.
I was wrong.
Something made me rub it between my thumb and forefinger.
Big mistake.

Bend on Asteroids“Light it!”
Sparks flew across the rope, sizzling into it's pocket.
“Duck! Chett, RUN!”
Rockets shrieked their way into the night sky, exploding in brilliant bursts of colour.  Chett skittered wildly underneath them, dancing between the shower of sparks. A group of four watched him from a safe distance, laying flat across the top of the hill.  Flashing lights lit up their faces, mischievous grins filled with laughter. Chett struggled up the hill after them.
Sally lifted herself onto her hands, folding her legs underneath herself.
“You okay speedy?” she giggled through her teeth.
A muscle twitched under his eye, his feet turning to carry him in front of her. He stomped to a halt, bending over to catch his breath.
“Sal, if you! If you ever, pull that stunt again.” he pointed his finger at her face, shaking his head with a wheeze. “I swear.”
She patted his head comfortingly with a smile to show she'd ignored every word
